The Parenting Journey - CMCS and Head Start

Parents were filled with gratification and joy at CMCS’ Tolentine Head Start Program on June 4th, 2014 at the completion of their 12 week Parenting Course. At the breakfast honoring their accomplishment each parent received a certificate of completion and a portfolio of their respective journey. In addition, we created a bulletin board created to honor the parents and the hard work and commitment they are making to their children.

CMCS Parenting classes are designed to help foster empathy, honesty, self-reliance, self-control, kindness, cooperation, and cheerfulness when raising a child. It also promotes intellectual curiosity, motivation, and encourages a desire to achieve. Our parenting classes are geared to educate parents on how to protect children from developing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, antisocial behavior, and alcohol and drug abuse.

According to Ms. Patricia Arroyo, a social worker at Tolentine, “our parenting classes allowed parents to view themselves and stop the cycle of adversity.”

“Parents along with Staff responded positively and felt a sense of empowerment and gratitude…we already have a list of parents who are ready to take the course next year!”, stated Ms. Arroyo with enthusiasm.    The goal of our Federal Head Start programs across the nation is to inspire and support early childhood development and education.   The CMCS Head Start Program at Tolentine has demonstrated their effectiveness for healthier, empowered children and families, while creating a stronger, more vibrant community!   That’s what CMCS is all about!

Thank you to Micheal Suarez, Educational Director, Judith Harley, Site Director, Ann Tu, Family Assistant and Patricia Arroyo, Social Worker, who ensured this activity was productive, enlightening and meaningful.
